  • Air Pollution Needs Solution

    Wed 25 May 2022

Our year 3 pupils participated in an art project managed by local artist Linett Kamala, who was chosen by Brent following her successful bid to lead the project.  In partnership with an ambassador from ‘Mums for Lungs’, a group that raises awareness on the effects of pollution, and another 3 schools in Brent, our year 3 pupils were asked to create a banner using words which emphasis the effects of pollution.  The work was unveiled on Tuesday 24th May at the front of the school, when members of the press were invited, along with representatives from the local council in Brent, our year 3 pupils and their parents.

  • Maths Week 2022

    Mon 07 Feb 2022

We celebrated Maths' Week at Park Lane Primary School from Monday 31st January to Friday 4th February 2022.  This year's theme was 'Games and Puzzles' and the children were challenged to create their own maths' game or puzzle; they were able to do this by working in small groups or with a partner from their class.  Teachers planned a series of lessons where children explored a range of board games and puzzles, carefully considering the rules of the games, before creating their own.  During Friday's maths' lessons, children were able to play their own board games and puzzles, and prizes were awarded for the best in each class.

Throughout the week, children in KS2 participated in times table competitions when children were given between 5 to 10 minutes to complete a times table challenge sheet.   Each year group also looked at different mathematicians and had the opportunity to discover what we know about these mathematicians, producing fact sheets to share with their class.   The mathematicians investigated are as follows:

  • October - Black History Month at Park Lane Primary School

    Tue 02 Nov 2021

The children had a wonderful time learning all about Marcus Rashford and the amazing work that he has done to promote Free School Meals in the UK, during our celebration of Black History.  This year's theme was Black British Excellence and Marcus Rashford was deemed a worthy role model, not only as a successful British footballer playing for Manchester United and representing England in our national team, but predominantly for the work he has done with charities across the UK during the Covid lockdown periods to promote Free School Meals for all children.

On Friday 22nd October, the school population came together in the playground to show off the fantastic carnival costumes and masks that the children and staff created in the week prior to the half term break.  Following the costume parade, keeping to our Carnival theme, the children and staff enjoyed an hour of dance in the playground.  We hope you will enjoy these photos and the small video, which can be found on the School Video page of the Children tab,  celebrating Black History Month.

  • School Council Elections

    Mon 11 Oct 2021

School Council Elections were held on Friday 8th October when the children in years 2 to 6 voted to select one girl and one boy from each class to represent them at school council meetings.  Four candidates were put forward and staff from the Brent Electoral Office visited Park Lane Primary School to supervise the voting process.  Ballot papers were given out and children had to select the candidates that they thought would best represent their class.  The children visited the polling station that was set up in the school hall, the votes were duly counted and the results announced during a special assembly, attended by the Mayor of Brent, on Monday 11th October.

During the assembly, the Red Hats, Junior Travel Ambassadors and Play Leaders were also announced.

Following the assembly, the newly elected school councillors retired to the school library with the Mayor, where they enjoyed morning tea while asking questions about the Mayor's responsibilities in Brent.
