Condolences to the Royal Family on the passing of our Queen
Mon 12 Sep 2022The pupils and staff join the nation and commonwealth in mourning the passing of HM Queen Elizabeth II. On Monday 12th September, Miss Lewis led a special assembly at our school, to honour the many achievements of this inspirational leader and to celebrate the reign of Britain's longest serving monarch.
Over the coming weeks, Park Lane Primary School will engage in a range of activities to commemorate the life of our Queen and reflect on the key events in the Queen's life over the last 96 years.

Year 6 Graduation
Thu 21 Jul 2022The year 6 graduation ceremony took place on Wednesday 20th July 2022. The event gave family members and staff the opportunity to celebrate the graduating class of 2022's achievements during their time at Park Lane Primary School while also formally wishing them well during the next phase of their educational journey. Mrs Givans-Haynes was the Master of Ceremonies and introduced the order of events. Our Head Teacher, Miss Lewis, spoke eloquently about the particular challenges that this graduating class faced and how they stood firm and worked hard to achieve good SATs results; they have shown character, demonstrated perseverance and determination.
Mrs Bevis-Smith, our deputy chair, spoke on behalf of the Governors to congratulate the graduating class. Her speech was followed by a violin performance from Maha. Heer and Shabnam read moving poems thanking their teachers and wishing their classmates well.
Miss Omar, Mrs Parveen and Mrs Farmer spoke about their memories during their time as year 6 class teachers. Teaching Assistant Mrs Deboo then read a touching poem which was composed by 6G's teaching assistant, Ms. Salah.
The school choir performed The Champion and later in the programme, the entire year 6 class performed their rendition of Fight Song. Amongst the many highlights of the evening were the valedictory speech from Maryam of 6Y, and of course, our guest speaker Mr. Michael DeSouza - the famed author and creator of the Rastamouse book series.
Following the presentation of graduation certificates, prizes were awarded for best writer, mathematician, scientist, historian, artist, geographer, sportsperson and actor. SATs prizes where also awarded and finally, the Head Teacher's award for one pupil from each year 6 class.
Pupils, parents and staff shared a delicious meal in the school playground where they enjoyed each other's company as much as the weather!

International Evening
Mon 18 Jul 2022The Annual Park Lane Primary School International Evening, which took place on Friday 15 July, was truly a joyous event. Pupils from across the school population entertained a huge crowd gathered to celebrate the cultural diversity of our school. The programme contained items from Albania, Italy, Poland, America, Spain, Sri Lanka, India, West Africa, Nigeria, Jamaica, Somalia and of course, the U.K. During the evening, we witnessed talented performances of song, dance and poetry; there were performances from the Park Lane Choir and Cheerleading Club and the concert ended with the fashion show.
The event was hosted by year 5Y's Ismail and Angela from 6Y who did a fantastic job of keeping the keeping the programme flowing. Children and staff were brightly attired in their traditional dress and at the end of the evening, we made our way to the dining room to sample dishes from all over the world.

Annual Summer Fair
Thu 14 Jul 2022The Annual Park Lane Primary School Summer Fair took place on Thursday 7th July. Organised by the PSA, led by Ms. Panayi, the day was a whole lot of fun!
The PSA supports our school to enhance the children's education and enrichment experiences. The PSA organise school fun raising activities, social events and trips, and on this occasion raised over £900 for the school.
Each class managed their own stall and children sold items such as bracelets, photo frames, ice creams, drinks and snacks. We had a bouncy castle, the fire brigade were in attendance with their fire truck, of course; there were nail polish and henna pampering stalls, face painting, goal scoring and 'hit the coconut' stands.

Year 6 Visit Central London
Tue 28 Jun 2022Our year 6 pupils and staff visited the city of London on Monday 27th June. This educational trip afforded the children an opportunity to experience famous landmarks within central London and to develop a better understanding of the history of their surroundings. The visit also supported the year 6 class value of Responsibility, as well as being part of the 50 things year 6 should accomplish before leaving Park Lane Primary School.
Children enjoyed visiting the London Eye, which provides stunning views of our capital's skyline, before joining a river boat cruise along the Thames.
Some of the landmarks we observed included: The Tower of London, The Globe Theatre; Houses of Parliament and Big Ben.

KS2 Sports Day
Wed 22 Jun 2022Today our KS2 pupils enjoyed an afternoon in the sunshine as they competed against their class mates in the annual Park Lane Primary School KS2 Sports Day.
Brightly dressed in their team colours of red, blue, yellow and green, representing Rosa Parks, Nelson Mandela, Florence Nightingale and Mahatma Ghandhi, the children competed for house points.
Parents/carers were in attendance to encourage and cheer for their children.

Wellness Week 2022
Thu 16 Jun 2022During the week of Monday 13th to Friday 17th June, Park Lane Primary School celebrated Wellness Week. Mrs Valeri of Place2Be launched Wellness Week during Monday’s Head Teacher’s assembly and for the remainder of the week, children from all year levels participated in a range of activities highlighting the importance of physical and mental health.
Every morning our KS2 pupils participated in the ‘Daily Mile’ fun run around the school playground, and in the afternoon, it was the turn of pupils in KS1. Rounders competitions were also held for KS2 pupils throughout the week, and on Wednesday, EYFS and KS1 took part in an obstacle course in the school hall. The benefits of exercise to our physical and mental wellbeing are well documented and this week was all about raising awareness of the importance of both.
Sports Day for KS1 was held in King Edward VII Park on Friday 17th June and parents joined us in the afternoon to cheer on their children and their classmates. Sports Day for KS2 pupils will be held on Wednesday 22nd June.
Parents were also invited to a very special Wellbeing Coffee Morning on Tuesday 14th June in the school hall. Whilst being treated to morning tea, guests from our local community joined us to share ideas on activities to promote wellbeing in ourselves and our children. Guests included: Robyn - a Place2Be Parent Practitioner, Raeesa – Place2Be Children Councillor, and Nataliya and Florentina from Unique Community Charity, which operates the Brent Youth Theatre.
Nataliya, Teo and Andrew from the Brent Youth Theatre delivered drama workshops to our year 6 pupils on Wednesday 15th June. The workshops, in line with the wellbeing theme, involved critical thinking and empathy.
During PHSE lessons, we discussed the importance of healthy eating, along with exercise and mental health. Children across the school engaged in the following activities in class:
EYFS – Yoga and making a fruit salad. Pupils were asked to bring in one piece of their favourite fruit to add to the fruit salad.
Year 1 and 2 – Write an acrostic poem about exercising.
Year 3 and 4 – Create a healthy balanced plate and explain why they chose it.
Year 5 and 6 – Focus on mental health and write a poem. Children used iPads to go visit supermarket websites and create a balanced food plate with a budget of £5 to make three meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner).

Year 6 Residential Stay at Kingswood
Mon 13 Jun 2022Thirty children from year 6, along with 3 members of staff, attended Kingswood Residential Centre in Norfolk from Monday 6th to Friday 10th June. Kingswood West Runton is situated within 45 acres of stunning countryside, right on the coast, with over 20 exciting activities on-site. Our pupils and staff had the opportunity to participate in abseiling, various obstacle and challenge courses, three trapezes, a giant swing, a motorsports track and a huge multi-activity tower. The children had a wonderful time and developed independence in addition to essential team building skills during their time away.

The Queen's Platinum Jubilee Celebration
Thu 26 May 2022On Thursday 26th May, pupils and staff enjoyed a special celebratory garden party in honour of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee. Lunch included finger sandwiches, fresh fruit, scones with jam and clotted cream, and tea cake. The school playground was decorated for the occasion, and the entire school population dressed in red, white and blue - the colours of the the Union Jack. Following lunch, the children enjoyed a disco in the playground.
This term we have been learning all about the Queen and her reign. We have adapted the history curriculum to teach each year group a unit on the monarchy, as this is a once in a lifetime experience and our pupils have produced some excellent work.
