Park Lane Primary School Book Week

Renowned children's author and creator of the BBC Rastamouse series, Michael DeSouza visited Park Lane Primary School on Monday 27th February to deliver a writing workshop to our year 6 pupils.  Michael had the children in fits of laughter whilst creating their own rhymes.

As part of their homework during Book Week, our pupils were asked to send in a photo of themselves sharing a story with family and/or friends.  The entries were very creative and it was difficult for Mrs Palin to pick a winner but in the end, she managed to narrow it down to Nora, Aaradhya and Janae.  These three pupils received a special bedtime story kit, which contained a book, soft toy and mug with hot chocolate sachets. We have shared some of the entries with you so that you can see how fierce was the competition!

Pupils and staff have also been working on a class display competition for the best display which celebrates a love of reading.  The displays will be judged on Monday 13th March.

Throughout the week, parents of pupils from our nursery, reception, year 1 and 2 classes have been been coming in to read to their children and to other pupils in the class.

Mrs Palin and Mrs Ogbebor led an on line workshop with parents from EYFS and Year 1, to provide parents with ideas on how to develop their child's love of reading at home.   During the meeting, which took place via Zoom on Wednesday 29th February, there was a discussion about Collins E-books and how our pupils can access them from any devise connected to the internet.

Thursday 2nd March was World Book Day and all pupils and staff were invited to dress up as their favourite character from a book.  The children were very creative and prizes were awarded to pupils in each class for the most original costume.   At the end of the school day, each child was given a national book token to swap for one free book or £1 off a book at any participating bookseller.  We will be holding a Book Fair at school from Tuesday 21st March to Friday 24th March; children may use their book tokens at the fair.
