Lifelong Learning Together

Personal Social Citizenship and Health Education

The PSCHE curriculum is taught through the SEAL (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning) scheme. This is taught across the curriculum as well as being used for the basis of our school assemblies.

In the Foundation Stage PSED (Personal, Social and Emotional Development) is one of the seven areas of learning and is key to developing children’s ability to develop a positive sense of themselves, and others; to form positive relationships and develop respect for others; to develop social skills and learn how to manage their feelings; to understand appropriate behaviour in groups; and to have confidence in their own abilities.

Our children contribute to a school council who meet regularly to deal with issues relating to our school and the wider community. Each class has an elected councillor who brings forward issues and proposed developments. Their recent work has seen the council work alongside canteen staff to develop new menu options.

We have three Year 5 teams who run our School Bank, supported by staff from HSBC. Children are expected to submit application forms, go through a short listing procedure and attend an interview, if successful. The bank meets every other Tuesday for pupils in KS2 to open accounts and make deposits.

Some of our Year 5 and 6 pupils are trained as Play Leaders and Peer Mediators who work with children to help resolve potential arguments on the playground and provide our children with games and activities each break time.

In Year 6 children are elected as Prefects and Junior Librarian. They take responsibility for specific duties in order to help our school run smoothly each day.

Children are given genuine opportunities to develop responsible attitudes to others by being able to organise fund raising activities on local, national and international levels.
