We’ve had an interesting and eventful start to the school year at Park Lane Primary School. During this first half-term, the children have produced some excellent pieces of writing in literacy, based on their investigation and analysis of Roald Dahl’s Matilda.
There have been some fantastic class assemblies from 6y, 5y, 6G, 4y and 2y, in addition to a special assembly held on October 12th, when the Mayor of Brent announced the 2015/16 school councillors. Mayor Leslie Jones MBE awarded the councillors’ their council badges and she presented Certificates of Apprecitation to last year’s school council representatives. The Mayor also formally congratulated the new Junior Road Safety Officers, Prefects, Red Hats, Monitors – Line Checkers and Play Leaders.
The school received a Gold Award for Road Safety and Travel Initiatives which recognises all the work Mrs. Ogbebor and her team of Junior Road Safety Officers have done to promote road safety in and around the school. Faizan (5G) and Tara (5Y) accompanied Mrs. Ogbebor to the STARS Gold Accredited Seminar in London, where they received this prestigious honour.
Also this half term, both year 4 classes have commenced swimming lessons at Vale Farm Sports Centre. The children in years 3 and 4 have had a fun visit to the public library at the Brent Civic Centre. And I was happy to welcome some familiar faces and some new, to the first Head Teacher’s Coffee Morning of the school year.
On Tuesday October 20th we celebrated Happy Shoes Day, when the children and staff were encouraged to wear the shoes that make them happy and donate £1 to Living Streets. This UK charity supports schools wanting to get more families walking to school.
During the week of October 19th to 23rd, Park Lane Primary School celebrated Black History and this year’s theme was Now and Then Black People in Time. Teachers covered a range of subjects relating to this theme, and African Drummers/Dancers spent time with each class in KS2, while ‘Spuds and Yam’ performed with Early Years and KS1. Children from each class contributed to the Black History Assembly at the end of the week.
Finally, the school congratulated Ms. Robson, who has given birth to a beautiful baby girl, Florence Ivy. We also welcomed back Mrs. Wassel, but bid a fond farewell to Mr. Quinn who leaves us after almost 2 years. Mr. Quinn will travel through some parts of Europe and Japan, before returning to his homeland Australia.
The term resumes after a week’s break, on Monday November 2nd at 8.50am. I look forward to seeing you all then..
