The build up to the Easter holiday break was a very exciting time for the children and staff. Year 4 overwhelmed us with their outstanding Easter production – The Resurrection Rock. Along with staff, the children auditioned and rehearsed their parts for a month preceding the performance, which left us in no doubt of their talent.
Also prior to the break, Park Lane Primary School’s Annual Easter Bonnet Parade was a wave of colour, and the PSA raised £226.50 towards the school bus fund through the sale of raffle tickets for their Easter prize draw.
Park Lane Primary School raised £435 when we took part in Red Nose Day on March 24th; this worthy charity transforms lives across the UK and in the world’s poorest communities. Thank you to students, staff and parents/carers for your generous contributions.
Earlier in March, we celebrated Maths week with a visit from the Maths Magician and a range of activities designed to challenge and arouse the children’s enthusiasm for maths. We raised an additional £288.65 towards the school bus fund when children dressed up as ‘anything money can buy’ and made a financial contribution to this non uniform event.
During English week we were treated to a performance of ‘The Unusual Adventures of Robin Hood’ by the Hobgoblin Theatre Company. And on World Book Day, the children had the opportunity of dressing up as their favourite character from a book.
The children in years 2, 3 and 4 participated in workshops run by the artists in residence at Wembley Library. Year 3 also visited Wembley Stadium during March, to enhance their knowledge of landmarks of significance in our local area. Reception enjoyed a performance of ‘Red Riding Hood’ when they visited the Dugdale Theatre in Enfield on March 29th.
The parents/carers of children who attend our nursery were invited to a stay and play session on March 10th. This workshop enabled parents/carers to experience first-hand what their children get up to while at nursery. It also gave them the opportunity to speak to nursery staff about the best way to support their child with his/her home learning.
The children and staff have presented many entertaining and informative class assemblies this half term. 5G enlightened us on ancient Greek gods and myths; 6Y told us all about Charles Darwin and his theory of Evolution, and Butterfly reception class sang ‘Old Macdonald Had a Farm’ in Spanish during their class assembly which was all about animals.
Park Lane Primary School achieved second place in the Annual Regional Spelling Bee competition, which took place on March 28th at Wykeham Primary School. Mrs. Givans-Haynes coached a team of extremely talented pupils, which resulted in Mitali taking first place for year 3, Dylan taking second place for year 5 and Aliza achieving third place in the year 4 competitions. Congratulations and well done!
Finally, we bid a fond farewell to Mrs. Pauline Bookal who leaves Park Lane Primary School after 17 years of service.
