The first term of the 2015/16 school year, has been an exciting time at Park Lane Primary School. The highlight for most staff and students was the school trip to the musical Matilda. After studying Roald Dahl’s fantastic book earlier in the term, the children really enjoyed seeing the story come to life on the West End stage.
We have seen some amazing performances delivered by the children during the Early Years and Key Stage 1 Nativity assemblies. During Road Safety Week, the Junior Road Safety Officers (JRSO) educated us on the importance of staying alert and visible when near the road, and during Anti-Bullying Week our newly elected School Councillors advised us to speak out against bullying in their assembly entitled ‘Make a Noise about Bullying.’
On December 4th the annual school disco was held in the hall, to the delight of all the children attending. It raised almost £800 to add to the PSA’s fund for a new school bus. We also raised £600 for Macmillan Cancer trust following a cake sale and non-uniform day.
The children have also enjoyed school trips to various destinations to supplement what they’ve learnt as part of the curriculum. Year 5 visited the British Museum to view Saxon treasures; year4 went to the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir Temple as part of their R.E. studies. During a trip to the Natural History Museum, year 3 learnt more about rock formations, and year 1 revised what they have been learning about parts of the body, personal hygiene, keeping healthy and feelings, at the Bracknell Discovery Centre. The Nursery staff, parents/carers and children had an enjoyable day at Brent Cross looking at Chanukah and Christmas decorations, and earlier this month Ladybird and Butterfly classes had a fun day out at the London Zoo. Reception classes were also fortunate enough to receive a visit from the Wembley Fire Brigade who spoke to the children about staying safe and what to do when a fire occurs.
Finally, we say goodbye to Interim Deputy Head Teacher, Mrs Clare Spence and School Meal Supervisory Assistant, Mrs Urmila Patel who has worked for the school for over 33 years! We look forward to welcoming new Deputy Head Teacher, Miss Nicola Rawcliffe, at the beginning of the Spring term.
